Competitive Fall U9/U10 – Dribbling Ball Striking

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way When you get there Session will be Warmup game (10-15minutes) – Work (30-40 minutes) – Play (10-15 minutes) Coaches will have groups of 6 to start and then will get players added to their group Focus on details! What does it feel like, look like, what do your legs do, arms do, core, etc. The more detailed and specific as you teach the better our players will develop –“I like how you used your laces and struck thru the center of the ball” is better then “Nice hit of the that ball” Some groups you will need to provide the energy so be prepared with a few silly things mixed in but get back to business ASAP

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way Key Coach Players Players w/ball Cones Balls Pugg Goal

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way Move of the Week -Focus is on the “Lunge” -This is one of the basic moves for our club. -There is no doubt there are more elaborate moves but the “Lunge” is a foundation move for our club. KEYS Dribble forward at a high speed Step to one side of the ball line On this step it is critical that shoulders dip in the direction the player is lunging towards and that the player loads their legs to explode in the other direction In the next step push the ball with the outside of the foot opposite the foot that just “lunged” After the push away it is critical that the player get to max speed again

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way Warmup- Copycat Juggle v patner -Each player gets a partner to start playing against -Partner A does one juggle (ie. Top of foot) and catches it -Partner B needs to do the same and add one (ie. Top of foot, head) and catch it -This goes on until one partner cannot complete the pattern -When this happens they each find anew partner KEYS Be creative and have fun Challenge you and your partner Discourage thighs with better players

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way Activity 1 – One Man/Woman Wrecking Crew -Every player has a ball -One player has the ball in their hands the others have their ball on the ground -Player with ball in their hands is the “It” player who is trying to knock the other player’s ball out of the space -Once a player has been knocked out the space have them show you the lunge 2-3 times -Make sure your space is big enough so there is space for players to attack KEYS Control of ball Mechanics of the Lunge – lung, shoulder dip, touch with outside of foot, etc. Speed away after the move Go My ball got hit out

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way Activity 2 – Dribble/Shoot -Couple of lines balls with servers – blue passes to blue and yellow are the defenders -Players should be encourage to try the lunge with defenders running at them -Attackers get two points for scoring from the push pass zone -If defender wins the ball attack the counter goal and score ASAP – pass thru will be fine KEYS Pass ahead of player to attack it Player receiving ball on the move with proper foot Where is last touch – must set-up shot Sell defender you are going to one side attack the other Toe poke/push pass zone Drive the ball with laces zone

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way Activity 3 – 1v1 to Big and Counters -Two teams one will attack big goal others will attack two counter goals -If defenders win the ball get them to shot early -Make sure to switch side of the servers and defenders accordingly KEYS Quality of pass to attacker – roll it in ahead of the player so the can attack it First touch of attacker can it eliminate the D or does it need to be tight to set up a move Shot – do you see a space to hit the ball Shot – surface choice Shot – Plant foot, hip snap, follow thru Toe poke/push pass zone

- Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way Activity 4 – Play -Split the players onto two teams -Play 3v3 to start and play no larger then 5v5 with a few subs if necessary. Make sure to adjust the field a little more space is better then too small -Have a pile of balls near each end line when you run out of balls go collect -One team could play to goal w/sweeper/GK KEYS Effort is number 1 priority if effort is not sufficient pull player out and have them watch until the are ready to give effort Willingness to Defend and Attack Look for opportunities to shoot

Thanks Have fun, be detailed, be demanding!

U9/U10 Fall Session 1 Activity 1 – One Man/Woman Wrecking Crew Activity 2 – Dribble to beat Activity 3 – 1v1 to big & Counter Goals Play One partner does one juggle The other partner does the same thing plus a new juggle Can mandate the players catch it after if they are good enough If player cannot do the juggling sequence, they lose and each finds a new partner to play Every player has a ball One player has the ball in their hands the others have their ball on the ground Player with ball in their hands is the “It” player who is trying to knock the other player’s ball out of the space Once a player has been knocked out the space have them show you the lunge 2-3 times 2 teams – keep score 1 team attacks big goal other team attacks 2 counter goals Keep pace quick When group runs out of balls collect them 2 teams – keep score Players receive pass from teammate dribble and shoot on goal Switch side that pass comes from and team roles 2 pts. For scoring with a push pass 3v3 up to 5v5 with subs if necessary Creativity Challenge yourself and partner Should be self run game Keep the ball on the move Close control of ball Head up to see trouble Quality of pass First touch receiving ball Attack the defender Sell and MOVE! Be specific to player Quality of1st touch – does it eliminate D or does it need to be tight to set-up move Mechanics of shooting Choices if there is space shot it Shooting mentality Mechanics specific to individual Surface choice Warmup- Copycat juggle v partner - Decisions - Ownership - Standards - Enjoyment - Technique - Attacking The Woodbury Way
