1 Field Setup Field Setup (5 stations) Separate large field into three equal “stations” using cones, and small field into two equal “stations” using cones Separate U8-U12 teams into 5 groups as follows: Create 1 U8 group Create 1 U9 group Create 1 mixed U10 group out of U10 Black and U10 Red teams Create 2 mixed U11/U12 groups out of U11 Black, U11 Red, and U12 teams Assign one coach to each “station” Each coach will run a game with the group in their “station” for approximately 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, groups will rotate clockwise (e.g. #1->2, 2->3, etc) to a new “station” Repeat until each group has participated in all stations ~40yds ~70yds Kent City FC © 2015 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 5

2 Station #1: Quick Draw (15 min) Setup: Create 10yd x 10 yd box with cones Split group into half, with each half lining up behind a cone as pictured coach stands on one side with all the balls Can create more than one box and run multiple games at the same time if necessary Game: First player in line on each cone faces their back to the center of the box Coach throws ball to somewhere in the box On coaches command “go!”, the 2 players turn around and fight for possession of ball Player scores by dribbling ball across opposite end line Coaching: Encourage quick reaction, fakes Place ball in air and on ground, and from different locations in the box Keep lines moving, quick turnaround from one pair to the next Kent City FC © 2015

3 Station #2: Thunderdome (15 min) Setup: Create 10yd x 20 yd rectangle with cones Split group into half, with each half lining up along “goal line” on opposite ends of the rectangle as pictured, holding hands coach stands on one side with all the balls Adjust size of rectangles to number of players so that the players can hold hands and reach form one side to the other as shown Game: Players on each end hold hands On coaches command, 1st player in line on each team, from opposite corners, come into box Coach plays ball to one player or the other (coaches choice) The players fight for possession of ball Player scores by shooting ball across opposite end line, through line of players Opposing players can block shot using bodies and feet, but cannot let go of hands Shot has to be knee level or below to count Coaching: Encourage quick reaction, fakes Place ball in air and on ground, and from different locations in the box Keep lines moving, quick turnaround from one pair to the next Variations: require that a fake be done use weak foot only Kent City FC © 2015

4 Station #3: Turn and Shoot (15 min) 1v1 Pop-up goals on either end of the field Players line up at one end of field, with half on one side of pop-up goal, and half on the other side All balls next to coach on opposite end of field Set a cone about 8 yards in front of “right” line First player on “right” side line up at 8-yard cone Coach will distribute a ball either on ground or in-air to player on “right” side As soon as ball is in air, 1 st player from each team tries to win the ball Play 1v1, with player on “right” side scoring on nearest goal next to starting point, and player on “left” side scoring on far goal near coach Switch lines after turn 20yds 30yds 8yds Kent City FC © 2014

5 Station #4: Combat (15 min) Setup: Separate players into 2 teams (one team wearing pinnies) Teams line up at one end of field in two lines All balls next to coach on opposite end of field Game: Coach will distribute a ball either on ground or in-air somewhere on the field and call out number of players from each line Call “1” and 1 st plyer from each line comes out Call “2” and first 2 from each line for 2v2 etc... Players called from each team try to win the ball, and will have to pass (not shoot) the ball to the coach within the playing field The coach, after distributing the ball, will position themselves somewhere in the playing area, and not move until the ball is passed to them successfully (vary the location each turn) Coaching: Encourage communication “ball!”, “man-on”, “drop”, etc., when in 2v2 situations Distribute ball in air and ground 20yds 35yds Kent City FC © 2015

6 Station #5: 2v2 Pass to Outside (15 min) Setup: Make a 20x20 yard square with cones Split group into two teams, with one team wearing pinnies Put two players from each group in center of square, and the rest of the players on four corners of square as shown, with each team split on opposite corners Game: Ball starts on one of the corners Players on corner passes ball to teammate inside square Team receiving pass has to get ball to teammate on opposite corner (not to same player that passed to them) When a player on a corner receives a pass from their teammate in the box, they will switch places with the teammate in the box and play will continue If the other team wins the ball, they will try to pass it to one of their outside players, etc. Coaching: Encourage communication “BALL!” and for outside players that pass the ball to yell “TURN!” to player inside circle If players hold ball too long (more than 3-5 seconds) start timing them out loud to encourage quicker release Variation: Place players around square on midpoints as well Play 3v3 with larger square Kent City FC © 2014 20yds 35yds
