2 Camel n Has long legs to keep body away from hot sand n Can store fat in hump. n Can go for long periods without water or food.

3 Camel n Can close nostrils to keep out sand. n Has long eyelashes to keep out sand. n Camels feet are wide so they can walk on sand more easily. n The color of their bodies helps them blend into their environment.

4 Polar Bear n Has white fur for camouflage. n Has an extra layer of fat to keep warm and thick fur. n Has sharp teeth and claws to catch and eat prey. n Has ridged foot pads to prevent slipping on ice. n They are very strong swimmers.

5 Polar Bear n If a polar bear lived in a desert: –What color do you think it would be? –Would it still have thick fur? –What would it eat?

6 Penguin n Has thick layer of fat to keep warm. n The dark feathers on their back help them absorb the sun. n Produces oil to keep feathers waterproof. n Penguins have webbed feet for swimming. n Their wings are also shaped like flippers to help them swim fast in water.

7 Golden Eagle n Large wing span for gliding. n Sharp talons for catching and holding prey. n Hooked beak for tearing meat. n Large eyes for spotting prey from great distances.

8 Shark n Stream lined body for swimming. n Fins to propel through the water. n Sharp teeth. If a shark’s tooth breaks, it will almost immediately replace itself. n Gills to breath under water.

9 Ostrich n Long legs to run fast. n Large eyes to see long distances. n Their eyes are almost on the side of their heads. n Long feathers to provide more shade to eggs and to keep body warm at night.
