1 Journal 1 Describe your family members and the home in which you live. Be as specific and detailed as possible! Remember, journals should be about ¾ page in length! **If you have not filled out a Student Contact Card, please do so immediately!!

6 Tool Room Reminders – ALL students must ask for permission before using the Tool Room – ALL students MUST wear safety goggles and gloves when using tools – All tools must be returned to where you found them – Violating any of these rules will result in your loss of privilege to use the Tool Room

8 – If something falls on the floor, pick it up! – Close-toed shoes must be worn at all times! No sandals! – ALWAYS leave time at the end of the period to clean up the shop, including sweeping.

10 Overview of the Unit We will all participate in an audition process. Your audition will include: – Resume – Interview questions – A prepared monologue

11 Monologues Monologues must be submitted for approval on Thursday August 15 th Monologues may not contain vulgar language or content Can be dramatic or comedic About 2-3 minutes in length Monologues MUST be memorized for the audition!

14 Choosing Your Monologue Find a character that interests you Try to find a character within your age range – 2 or 3 years younger to no more than 10 years older Try to choose a segment where only one character is speaking Choose something that will stand out – Interesting content – Range of emotions – Not commonly done piece

15 Other Helpful Hints Try to choose a piece from a play you have already read. If you haven’t read it, read it before the audition. Monologues can come from plays, novels, short stories, or films – If it comes from a film, make it your own!

16 REMEMBER, MONOLOGUES MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL ON THURSDAY!

17 Journal 2 Have you ever auditioned before? What was it like? What were your strengths? Weaknesses? If you haven’t auditioned before, have you ever had an interview? Same questions! If neither, free-write! How are you today? What’s going on with you? Remember, ¾ of a page!

20 Elements of a Resume Name and contact information obvious! Education – What school? – How long? – Degree? – Any special activities/awards?

21 Elements of a Resume Experience – Relevant to the job you are applying for – Any past jobs? Where? How long? What did you do? Skills – Relevant to the job you are applying for – Any awards/recognitions? – Organizations you belong to?

22 Elements of a Resume References – Include if required – Personal references Someone not related to you who can speak about your character – Professional references Someone not related to you who can speak about your job performance

23 Elements of a Resume Make sure your resume is crisp, clean, and organized! Should be no more than one page front and back When auditioning, include a headshot with your resume
