Curriculum Delivery Proposal for Company X

Objectives  By implementing an online new employee orientation, the experience will: Increase new hire participation in new employee orientation. Enhance new employee engagement. Boost new hire acclimation into their new role which will enhance productivity. Allow access to orientation materials from any internet enabled device. Permit new hires to complete orientation within 30 days of hire date.

Introduction In order to maintain their competitive advantage, more companies strive to fully educate all of their employees from the beginning and throughout their employment to increase job assimilation and decrease turnover.

Problem Statement For various companies, new employee orientation is a required training activity which is usually facilitated in a classroom setting onsite. However, due to conflicting work schedules and the distance between locations, many new employees are unable to attend orientation.

Solution Delivering new employee orientation online is an innovative technique more organizations are using to welcome their new staff. Companies such as IBM, Marriot, and Xerox who are at the forefront of their industries have opted to transition from the traditional classroom to an online orientation which in turn may have increased their competitive advantage.

Key Benefits to Online Orientation  Reduction of missed orientation materials.  Improved new hire retention rate.  Reduced orientation training costs.  Orientation message is consistent.  Can be used as a reference tool.

Supporting Evidence for Online Orientation Westwood and Johnson (2004, p. 7) stated “online orientation can deliver solid, memorable content to new hires any place and any time. Top benefits include, the ability to provide orientation to all employees regardless of start date; improved consistency of the orientation message, improved timeliness of orientation and the ability to deliver orientation to a geographically dispersed workforce.” Fidishun (n.d.) states "technology is a perfect path for the facilitation of self-direction. The ultimate ability of initiatives such as web-based learning to be non-linear allows an adult to follow the path that most appropriately reflects their need to learn." West & Barnard (2010, p. 10) confirms “online orientation can increase employee knowledge about a company. Creating an effective online training program for orientation is a useful tool for engaging new hires in a timely manner.”

Supporting Evidence for Online Orientation Covert (2011) stated "Spotsylvania County (Virginia) Schools implemented a Web-based online orientation and induction program to provide better, more efficient services to newly hired employees and to provide a more cost-effective method of sharing resources, information, and answers to frequently asked questions. In creating a unique user experience that accomplishes the many diverse goals of a Web- based online orientation and induction program, Spotsylvania County Schools not only provides newly approved employees a fast, convenient way to complete the required documentation to join the organization, but also ensures a more cost- effectiveness approach to service delivery."
