2 In today’s lesson, you will  Talk about sports and their health benefits  Practice asking and answering questions about your health  Express your wants and intentions as it relates to learning new activities  Give reasons why you would or would not like to do something  By the end of this lesson you will be able to talk about activities you want or don’t want to learn and state the reason why.

Tried years ago and did not enjoy it. No. Why? It is very expensive and I am really not interested in racquetball. No. I don’t enjoy dancing. Yes. I have heard that it is good for stress relieve. No. Why? It seems dangerous. And because I don’t like winter sports.

15 Pair Work: Ask your partner “Do you know how to + activity.”  ice skate  swim  racquet ball  ballroom dance  taekwondo  tai chi  bowl?  ski Do not use how to with martial arts. Do you know how to taekwondo? Do you know taekwondo? IMPORTANT: Write your partner’s answers down on a piece of paper. Some sports require the use of play. Ex. Do you know how to play basketball?

16 Pair Work: If your partner answered No, I don’t know how to do + activity.” Ask if they would like to learn how.  ice skate  swim  racquet ball  ballroom dance  taekwondo  tai chi  bowl?  ski IMPORTANT: do not use how to with martial arts. Remember: You should use Would you like to learn how to + activity? Do you want to learn how to + activity? When answering: You should say Yes, I would like to learn how to + activity OR No, I wouldn’t like to learn how to + activity DO NOT say Do you to learn DO NOT say Yes, I’m + activity Example Yes, I’m taewondo.

17 Review  When expressing wants and intentions we use would like to and want to.  Ex. I would like to learn how to cook. (I want to learn how to cook.)  When asking about someone’s wants and intentions we use would you like to or do you want to.  Ex. Would you like to learn how to swim? (Do you want to learn how to swim?)  It is always good to give a reason why you want to do something or do not want to do something.  I would like to learn tai chi because I like martial arts.  I don’t want to learn how to bowl because it looks boring.  Other expressions: These express a strong desire to do (or not do) something.  I’d really like to do (try) something.  I’d love to do (try) something.  I really wouldn’t like to do something. I really don’t want to do (try) something.
