2 Nelson  Nelson is a city on the eastern shores of Tasman Bay.  Nelson was established in 1858.  Nelson city has a population of around 46,437 ranking it as New Zealand's 12 most populated city.  Nelson is one of the few New Zealand cities to have its own flag.  Nelsons nick names are Top of the South, Sunny ferat Nelson and there motto is Palmam qui meruit. 3 Invercargill  Invercargill is the city I have chosen to research.  It is a small city on the South Island of New Zealand with a population of about 50000 people.  The city has a climate surprisingly similar to Britain.  A man was fishing in Invercargill and got attacked by a shark and had to stitch up his legs.  Many streets are named after British rivers including Dee, Tay, Forth and Yarrow. 5 Jack Lovelock JJJJack was the first kiwi to win a gold medal at the Olympics. HHHHe won at Berlin in 1936. HHHHis middle name was Edward. HHHHe was born in Crushing ton. HHHHe won running the 1500 metre race.

6 Sir Edmund Hillary HHHHe was born in Auckland. HHHHis birthday was on the 20th of July 1919. OOOOn the 29th of May 1953 Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing became the first climber to reach the top of Mount Everest. LLLLater in the 1950s he reached both the North and South poles. TTTThis made Hillary the first man to reach both poles.

7 Tuatara TTTThe tuatara is a lizard like animal. The tuatara were known to be alive up to 200million years ago at the same time as the dinosaurs. The tuatara is in danger. An adult tuatara can grow between 30 and 70 inches. The male tuatara has longer crest than the female.

8 Kiwi  The kiwi is a small flightless bird which has been adopted as the national symbol of New Zealand. New Zealanders are now known world wide as kiwis. The bird most associated with New Zealand is the kiwi. There is 3 different types of kiwi. These are the brown kiwi spotted kiwi and the little spotted kiwi.

9 Buzzy bee  In Warkworth there is a children”s ride shaped like a Buzzy Bee. The Buzzy Bee is a popular toy in New Zealand. It was designed and produced in the 1930s. In June 2007 it was announced that Buzzy Bee was going to have a stage show called Buzzy Bees Big Day Out. It is known for its bright colours and familiar clicking sound.

10 Hei-Tiki  Hei-Tiki are normally made out of green stone. They have a tourists version of it which is sold in New Zealand.  Hei-Tiki is an ornamental pendant traditionally worn by the Maori people. They are sold as good luck charms to tourists. The Hei-Tiki is to represent the goddess of the birth.
