The population of wellington is 393,600  Wellington is located in the south western tip of north island.  Wellington is the 12 nicest place to live in the world.  The original people that lived in new Zealand are called Maoris.  The first Europeans that settled in New Zealand arrived on the Tory ship on 20 September 1839.  In 1865 Wellington became capital of New Zealand instead of Auckland.  Auckland was only capital 14 years.  Wellington was and still is more successful than Auckland because it has been capital for 150 years.  Instead of shaking hands with someone when you meet them Maoris rub there noses toghether.

8.  Wellingtons first president was Irishman Henry Blundell.  Henry Blundell retired in 1874 but his three sons took over the job for him so it remained Blundell family 1972 when his sons retired.  The colony’s capital was originally established by govener William Hobson at Kororareka ( russel) at the of islands.  After 1841 it was sited in Auckland.  All though Wellington is the capital city it is the smallest place in New Zealand.
