3 Applying to COLLEGE

4 The Basics… 4 th or 5 th year students who will have 30 or more credits to graduate (community service hours + Lit test) One credit must be ENG 4U or ENG 4C Some colleges adjust admission marks upwards for students who present University-level courses

5 Gathering Information… Check admission requirements for specific programs @ ontariocolleges.caontariocolleges.ca College Fair was here at WCI Nov. 18 (upper foyer, both lunches) Research program admission requirements at ontariocolleges.ca/find (use keyword search) VISIT the colleges you’re considering

6 Applying On-Line… Have your research completed and review college websites Apply @ ontariocolleges.ca/apply, click “Apply Now” and create username and passwordontariocolleges.ca Students are strongly encouraged to complete their application by February 1, 2016 for equal consideration.

7 Application Fee… $95 – select up to 5 programs with no more than three choices at any one College Credit card, online banking, certified cheque or money order The date your fee is received is the date application is received

8 Important Dates… October 2015 – student demographic data sent from WCI to OCAS November 2015 – midterm term semester 1 marks sent to OCAS February 1, 2016 – all applications received by this date will be given equal consideration Mid-February 2016 – first semester final marks submitted to OCAS

9 Important Dates Cont’d… April, 2016 – Midterm semester 2 marks submitted February, 2016 earliest offer date May 1, 2016 acceptance must be confirmed through ontariocolleges.ca June, 2016 earliest date that colleges may require payment of tuition fees July, 2016 – final semester 2 marks submitted

11 The Basics……. 4 th or 5 th year students who will have 30 or more credits to graduate (community service and Lit test) Must have 6 university (U) or university / college (M) credits One MUST be ENG 4U

12 Gathering Information… Get program details online at electronicinfo.ca (# of spaces, admission averages, cost etc.) electronicinfo.ca University info sessions were hosted here at WCI VISIT the universities you’re considering

13 Applying On-Line… Have your research completed Apply @ www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-101www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-101 Students will receive their PIN from their guidance counsellor today after this assembly Students are strongly encouraged to complete their application by Dec. 31, 2015 HOWEVER you have until the January 13, 2016 deadline.

14 Application Fee… $140 – initial three (3) university/program choices $47 – for each university/program choice beyond the initial three Maximum of three (3) program choices per university Credit card, on-line banking (through Canadian banks only). International payments must include a $10 service fee and be Western Union bank-to-bank transfer.

15 Important Dates… October, 2015 – student demographic data sent from WCI to OUAC January 13, 2016– application deadline February 5, 2016 – recommended last date to submit all info to OUAC (including program choice changes and or University choices)

16 Important Dates Cont’d… Mid February 2016 – 1 st semester final marks submitted from WCI to OUAC April 27, 2016 – midterm semester 1 marks submitted May 27, 2016 - Last day to expect a response (offer, refusal or deferral pending specific additonal information) July 6, 2016 – Final marks submitted from all Ontario secondary schools

17 Helpful Hints You pay for 3 choices—use all 3 choices You may think that you want one school and one school only, but you may change your mind later Cut off averages fluctuate from year to year Apply, apply, apply—and have a Plan B Read the fine print Some schools reply to all choices, some only reply to your second choice if you aren’t accepted into your first choice Beware of time-outs Prepare your AIF in a document, then cut and paste Check email regularly Some schools via email—check for updates and additional information

18 Scholarships & Bursaries… Every college & university has a series of admission scholarships for which all applicants are automatically considered Bursaries-based primarily on financial need Scholarships-usually based on academic achievement Grants-cash award given to continue studies Loans-require re-payment
