EVALUATION QUESTION 3 What have you learned from your audience feedback?

TARGET AUDIENCE Our target audience is both male and female as our main characters our female to emphasise female domination which also appeals to the male character too. We have also aimed our trailer at working and middle class as the characters are business people which related to middle class but the crime and drugs that exist in the trailer are more appealing to the working class. It’s useful for media producers to collect feedback from a pre-release of their media product as it means that they can learn from mistakes or tweak bits of their material before it is fully released.

The first thing we did was to upload our trailer to YouTube. Although nobody commented directly on the video on YouTube, we still got some likes and no dislikes – which means that although the likes are anonymous, there is a chance that it could have been liked by an audience other than our target audience. HOW WE COLLECTED AUDIENCE FEEDBACK – SOCIAL MEDIA In addition to this, I also posted the trailer onto my Facebook account in order to gain any feedback we could. The feedback received was all positive with multiple likes and left the viewers wanting to see more.

HOW WE COLLECTED AUDIENCE FEEDBACK – SOCIAL MEDIA We also posted our trailer on twitter, we were hoping this would attract age groups of around 18-25. We did not receive any response during this process which would indicate that our trailer might not be as appealing as we thought, or we posted it at a bad time. Although posting to Facebook gave us quite a wide variety of audience, if we specifically wanted to target an older audience, we could have used the social networking site ‘LinkedIn’ as this is mainly used by older people.

HOW WE COLLECTED AUDIENCE FEEDBACK We then sent round a questionnaire to a small group of people, male and female aged 17-19. We did this to gain knowledge of what parts the audience liked, didn’t like and what we could have changed. We also asked them to make a guess of the genre of our film and certification, this gave us a good idea of how clear our film trailer was. These were the questions that we asked the group:

FEEDBACK CHART This is the feedback we collected from the open and closed questioned questionnaire. I have put it into a chart to make it easier to read and collect information from.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK More than half of our audience thought that our film was aimed towards a certification of 18; the rest edging more towards a 12A/15. As we had originally aimed our film to be a 15, this made us realise that maybe we should have had less violence. We then discussed that it may have been the footage of drugs that could have thrown them to the conclusion of our film trailer being an 18. To make sure our film trailer is obviously a 15, we could take this scene out and replace it with something a little less heavy. The options of genre we gave the audience to chose from were: Crime Thriller British Gangster Sci-Fi Other Nobody chose anything other than crime and British gangster. This was relieving to know as our film was a British crime meaning we successfully communicated the correct genre.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK 100% of people rated out film ‘good’ and that they would go and see the film. This was amazing news that nobody had disliked our film trailer. However, it was not rated ‘very good’ by anybody, meaning we just scraped the audience by an inch. If we had more time, we could have refined our trailer even more and maybe even added more clips/special FX. The things that were pointed our about our trailer that the audience liked were –  Shots  Characters  Editing  Soundtrack  Change in lighting  Variety in scenes/location  Strong female leads/domination This was very important to us as our USP was that the lead roles were female which is not often normal in crime films. We were extremely happy that this came across strongly in our trailer and people noticed.
