1 Parent Orientation 2012-2013 McLaurin Elementary

2 Welcome to Parent Orientation! Montessori Elementary Teachers -Amy Williams/Lori Dulaney -Anita Moore/Denise Callozzo -Dana Moore/Mimosa Dias -Lynn Helms/Suzanne Sadler -Melody Haigler/Rita Balutis -Christy Flowers/ Ila Reese -Zac Calcutt/ Wendy Johnson -Ashlee Quesada/ Jennifer Haire *If you have specific questions about your child, see his or her teacher after the presentation.

3 Morning Procedures Students arriving to school before 7:15 report to the cafeteria. The teacher on duty will pick up classes around 7:15 to take them to the designated meeting place. Students are to stay with the teacher on duty until their teacher picks them up to take them to class.

4 Changes in Transportation If your child is to go home a different way, you must send a note or call the office to let us know of the change. If we do not receive a note, or you don’t call the office to notify of us, we must send them home the way they usually go home.

5 Absences and Tardies If your child is absent from school, please send a note or Dr’s excuse within 3 days of the absence. The office must have this documentation on file. Please make sure your child gets to school on time. Our district policy requires an over-night suspension due to excessive tardies.

6 Contacts Agenda books go home daily for parent/teacher communication. Feel free to write notes in the agenda books. You may also email us and we will respond as quickly as possible. 7 Homework Students will be responsible for reading 30 minutes each evening and recording the books read in a Reading Log. Parents are responsible for initialing the log daily. Students should review Spelling words daily for a weekly Spelling test. Several home projects will be assigned throughout the year. **There is a homework policy school wide that you are being asked to sign and return to school. It states that your child is required to complete homework on a daily basis.

9 Tardy Policy There is also a tardy policy being sent home. Everyone must be IN class at 7:50, ready to start the day. District tardy policy for tardiness: 1 st time: Warning 2 nd time: Warning 3 rd time: Letter home 4 th time: Warning 5 th time: Overnight suspension-district documented 6 th time and each time after: one day out of school suspension

10 We CARE We have a school wide character building program which includes the following: Character Comes First Actions Speak Louder Than Words Responsibility Rocks Excellence in Everything You Do

11 Workplans/Newsletters Workplans will be sent home to be reviewed every Tuesday. Please sign and return them the next day. Montessori Newsletters will go home every other Friday.

12 Wish Lists Wish lists are posted on the doors of our classrooms. You may also look on each teacher’s website for items they may need.
