2 Characteristics 1.Starting in the 1890s realism in drama began to rise. 2.In the 1920’s realism had become widespread in England, France and the US. 3.Drama influenced social unrest by helping people think about social issues 4. Modern Drama has special effects and newer technology than Drama in the Roman times. 5. The production in 1906 of William Vaughn Moody's The Great Divide marked the beginning of modern drama. 6. In mid 1920s playwrights competed to have their plays produced by Theatre Guild 7. On an average there were 200-275 productions in the US per year in the 1920’s 8. Eugene O’ Neil is considered America’s first true dramatic genius. 9. Charles Rann Kennedy’s two dramas: Servant in the house and The Terrible Meek, were among the most discussed plays. 10. The Irish playwrights came into prominence in the mid 1920s.

3 Theatre Developments The Greek men only act on stage They wear funny clothes in tragedies, they wear a mask that is really beautiful. Comedy means something funny and tragedies mean something sorrowful. When the Greek people want to act like a shepherd they wear a black short and shirt. Tragedies were always about gods, comedy was always about everyday life. The stage was round so everyone can see the stage Comedy means something funny, tragedy means something sad.
