2 Antagonistic Muscle Pairs Pairs of muscles that produce opposite movements from one another. When one contracts, the other relaxes. When movement occurs, a muscle contracts. The opposite movement can only occur if there is another muscle to pull in the opposite direction.

3 Antagonistic Muscle Pairs Flexor Muscle: Pulls on a tendon to bend a joint. Extensor Muscle: Pulls on a different tendon to straighten the same joint.

6 Movement Abduction: Movement away from the side of the trunk or midline of the body. Ex. Raising arms from the sides. Adduction: Movement toward the trunk or midline.

8 Movement Flexion: Bending or bringing bones together. Ex: Bending elbow or knee. Extension: Straightening.

10 Movement Dorsal Flexion: Moving the foot towards the tibia (shin). Plantar Flexion: Moving the foot away from the tibia. Ex: Standing on your toes.

12 Movement Pronation: Turning the palm face down. Supination: Turning the palm face up.

14 Movement Elevation: Moving upward. Ex. Shrugging the shoulders. Depression: Movement downwards.
