SPANISH SEÑORA BELTZ Procedures

Entering Class 1. Come into class quietly and calmly. 2. Bring pencils, paper and your Spanish notebook to class every day. 3. Take your seat in your assigned spot. 4. If you arrive early, this is the time to sharpen pencils, and check the board for any information on homework, targets and future events. 5. Start on bell ringer. 6. When the tardy bell rings, and the door closes, students should be seated, with materials out and working on bell ringers.

Teacher Instruction 1. Have out all materials for note-taking – (Paper, Pens, Notebook). 2. Remain quiet and calm during teacher instruction. Take notes! These notes will be part of your notebook grade. 3. If you have a question, feel free to raise a silent hand at anytime, wait to be called on, and ask away.

Teacher Instruction (continued) 4. If you need to throw away paper, wait. Put it on the corner of your desk and throw it away when class is dismissed. 5. If you need to sharpen your pencil…hold up your pencil and I will allow you ask for a friend for one. Otherwise, one will be provided in exchange of the broken one, but at a price! 6.If you have an EMERGENCY or something going on where you can’t continue your notes (for example, running out of paper, etc.) please raise your hand to motion me over and I will provide you with your needed resources.

Food & Drink 1. No food or drink (except water) is allowed in the Spanish room, unless you plan to share with the class. 2. No gum is to be chewed during class. It makes the Spanish sound funny.

Getting Your Attention 1. I have a few different ways of getting your attention… Variety is the spice of life!  Rhythmic clapping  One, Two, Three, Eyes on me.  Singing The purpose of all these strategies is to get your attention. That means you are not talking or writing or moving in that moment. Your eyes are on me, actively listening.

Voice Levels 4- Outside Voices (I can’t think of any reason why this should be used in the classroom.) 3- Presentation (Use a voice that will carry to the back of the room, not down the hall.) 2- Groups (Used when talking in a group. Other groups across the room should not hear you. Nor should I be able to distinguish your voice above others in your group.) 1- Partners (Same as Group voice but only with one other person.) 0-No talking. No sounds. No utterances. Nothing. (Used during Quizzes and Tests!)

Finishing Early 1. BOGGLE! Every week, there will be a new configuration of letters. Find ENGLISH words. Translate them into Spanish by using the dictionary. A worksheet is provided and should be kept in your notebook.

Missing Work 1. If the person next to you is absent, put their name on their paper and put it in the correct class period file folder in the blue crate. It is your responsibility to help your fellow classmate out. 2. When you arrive to class the day following your absence, you should check the crate, find your class period file folder and pull out any worksheets that were handed out with your name on them. 3. For notes, you will want to consult a friend with good hand writing or my binder (after school). Documents should not leave my binder.

Passing Out Papers/Passing In 1. Your name and date and hour should ALWAYS be on your paper. 2. Pass your papers to the end of the row, towards my desk.

Getting Returned Papers: 1. Tests, quizzes and proficiency assessments will be handed out by the teacher. 2. All papers are face down due to confidentiality concerns. 3. Do not discuss your grade with others. If you happen to receive a paper that is not yours…give it to the teacher or put it face down and give it to the correct student. DO NOT DISCUSS THEIR GRADE IF YOU HAPPEN TO SEE IT!

Leaving Class When Bell Rings 1. Complete all Exit Slips and Ending Assignments. 2. Wait until I give the “Adios” -This is your signal to leave, the bell does not dismiss you. DO NOT GET UP OUT OF YOUR SEATS BEFORE I GIVE THIS SIGNAL. 3. Turn in your exit slip on the corner of the desk and exit the classroom in a quiet and calm manner.

Transitioning Between Activities 1. Listen to all instructions given. 2. Ask if you are confused. I appreciate your willingness to get it right. 3. Keep in mind the time limit given for transitioning. 4. Do not use this time to socialize, goof off, check your phone, or talk with a friend.

Bathroom 1. Time in between classes should be used efficiently. You will receive three passes for the SEMESTER. Use them wisely. You cannot share and you cannot have more. 2. Always ask politely to use the restroom. I will not allow you to go during instruction time. 3. To go, fill a pass out, cut it out, turn into me and then sign out on the sign-out sheet, and take the hall pass. 4. Return to class quickly. If you are gone for longer than expected, your bathroom privileges will be revoked.

When My Phone Rings 1. EVERYONE will become quiet so I can hear if the phone is really ringing or if the intercom if on. 2. Remain extremely quiet so I can answer what is needed of me to get off the phone quickly for you guys. 3. If you have work in front of you, continue your work. If you are waiting on me…get out your Boggle paper to work on!

Someone Knocks on the Door SAME EXACT PROCEDURE AS THE PHONE RINGING.

Fire Alarm Sounds or Evacuation 1. QUICKLY grab any materials you want to take outside (purse, phone, back pack, etc.) -Do not use this time to wait for your friends, talk, or do any duties in the class. 2. Exit and make your way out to right, out the side doors. Stay in a line! 3. Stay with class so I can check off that everyone is here. IF I CAN’T FIND YOU OUTSIDE, THERE WILL BE A CONSEQUENCE!

Lockdown Drill/Tornado/Earthquake Your job is to SILENTLY stand up, and move quickly and quietly to the designated safe spot. This is your ONLY job. Do it well.

Presentations, Assemblies and Special Events 1. During any sort of presentation, you are actively listening to the speaker. 2. You are still and quiet during the presentation. 3. You are to remain in your seat until the speaker is finished. 4. Applaud appropriately when the speaker is finished. 5. If appropriate, ask questions at the end!

Concerns/Comments/General Questions If there is ever a time where you feel you need to express concern, make a comment like, “You are moving too fast or too slow”, etc. or you just have a general question…… -Feel free to leave any of these appropriate questions or comments in my “Comment Box” located at the front of class. You do not have to put your name. I will work on all comments and answer all general questions to the class as a whole
