8 The War ( cont ) Battle of Britain – Hitler is dominating due to sheer numbers but he changes tactics – bombs cities and Britain holds firm Russia – Hitler changes his sights to longtime enemy Communist Stalin Battle of Stalingrad – turning point in eastern front war – Russians start to push the German back to Berlin

9 The War ( cont ) Pearl harbor – japanese attacked Dec 7 th, 1941 – brought the USA in to WWII Dieppe – failed raid by Can that Allies “learned from” D-Day – successful invasion of Normandy that established a foothold in Europe for Allies Holland – Can helps in the liberation of Holland Berlin – Germany is surrounded and surrender on May 7 th, 1945

10 Pacific War Island hopping Hiroshima – Aug 6 Nagasaki – Aug 9th VJ day ( August 14 th, 1945 )
