1 Welcome to Year 5 Aliens

2 Our Team  Jojo (Class Teacher)  Billie AT Monday to Friday  Tommy AT Monday to Friday  Catz – Teaching Science  Monday 10.45 – 11.45  Wednesday 2.00 – 3.00

3 Ethos  - celebrating children learning and leading  - child led learning: - giving children choices of different ways/places to learn including Outdoor Learning  - creative curriculum and linking areas of learning to make it meaningful  - community links – art gallery link and history of our school  - family groups – every Tuesday

4 Curriculum Our main topics for the year will be:  Autumn 1: Our world  Autumn1: Out Of This World  Autumn 2: Active Planet – Volcanoes.  Child led projects within this unit  Spring 1&2: World War 2 (8 weeks)  Spring 2: How Fair is Fair? (4 weeks)  Group Child led projects in this unit  Summer 1: Individual Child Led Topics (4 weeks)  Summer 1&2: What’s On Our Doorstep? A local history study

5 Trips  Half termly trips/visitor (not in first half term though)  Approximately £60 per year for class trips/ visitors.  Local community  All trips will be child choice and organised by the children

6 Logistics  Drop off and pick up - 8.30-8.45am. Register taken at 8.45am. This week, parents welcomed in for transition/settling Monday and Tuesday and now saying ‘goodbyes’ in the playground  Assemblies 25 th September – Harvest Assembly 23 rd October – Sharing Morning 4 th December – Aliens’ Assembly  Lunchtime – new catering company, emailed menu for you to discuss daily with your child. Children choose their own lunch when they come in in the morning  Uniform – please check the website and ensure your child is dressed accordingly  Attendance  After school clubs – to start w/c 21 st September

7 Timetable  Maths/English daily  Catz teaching Science Monday and Wednesday.  Music with Dawn – Tuesday morning  Multisports – Thursday afternoon  Swimming – Friday 12.00 – 12.30  Guided Reading three times per week starting in a couple of weeks.  Computing, Art, Design Technology (including cooking), RE, PSHE, History, Geography, Topic and French throughout the week  Family Groups – Tuesday  After school club – Year 1 small room/library  Breakfast club – library  Sibling club – EYFS  Home learning – given out Friday and handed in Wednesday  PSHE – to include Sex and Relationships education in Summer 2 – will be discussing puberty, changes and periods.

8 Home is part of the child Parent communication  link book and office@  positive feedback fortnightly – verbal/blog/link book  blogs updated weekly – please ensure you have signed consent form  half termly newsletters  half termly sharing mornings Volunteering  Please let us know if you have any particular talents or want to volunteer at HA. Book bags  Please check daily for letters/ link book messages

9 Behaviour  Our Golden Rule is Taking Care  Behaviour Steps - Thinking Space in every location to help children reflect with adult support  Reward systems – praise, celebration and family group tokens

11 Safeguarding Keeping our children safe  Mobile phones, no phones around the school.  Photos only to be taken of your own child in school on a digital camera (not phone) – please do not share on social media sites.  E-Safety permission form, please make sure these are signed or your child will be unable to use technology in school.  Correct drop off and pick up arrangements - parking - passwords – anyone picking up your child must know this  E-Safety at home – workshop this half term
