2 Introduction Introduction & the change of class names. Transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 Making children independent learners: - Pack their own bags for school – it’s never Mum’s fault! - Say goodbye before the bell - Encourage them to put their own things away - Kickstart

3 Literacy Class are all taught by Miss Taggar Format of lesson: - Class input and teacher modelling - Independent Activities and guided work - Plenary/sharing session Guided reading groups – half an hour every day Library books to be kept in school and reading books to take home Handwriting & pen licences Spellings (sent home Friday, tested the following Friday)

4 Taught in ability sets across Y3 and Y4 Format of lesson - Mental warm up. - Teacher led activity. - Group Activities (Independent/ Focus) - Plenary Maths

9 Homework for ALL KS2 Reading every day Spellings weekly (sent home on Friday’s and tested the following Friday) Literacy Homework weekly Numeracy Homework weekly Both sent home on Wednesdays and to be returned on Mondays Also encouraging children to learn their times tables.

10 Reading evening The school is holding an evening to inform parents of how we teach children to read and how you can help your children at home. I would highly encourage you to attend, as reading at home will be greatly beneficial in helping them to achieve even more in school.

11 School Uniform Labelled - uniform and P.E. kit. No jewellery Leggings are not acceptable school trousers Coats or jumpers needed every day

12 PE Labelled! No jewellery (earrings can be taped if the child cannot remove them) Hair tied back Swimming (Fridays): towel, swimming costume or trunks, googles, swimming hat (no hair dryers) Indoor PE (Thursdays after October half term): White t-shirt and black shorts. Outdoor PE (Tuesdays): White t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

13 Equipment required for school Book bag - books, reading record P.E. kit Swimming kit on Fridays Lunch boxes labelled with name Water bottle labelled – water only Snacks should be fruit or vegetables – good to have variety

14 Class reps and help in school Volunteers to help in school - Swimming - Reading Police checks and risk assessments.

15 Information All notices will be put in classroom window - please check regularly! ParentMail and website Open door policy. Make an appointment if you have any queries or concerns.
