A low, haunting sound rose from downstairs. The music grew louder as heavy footsteps sauntered up the stairs. The strong fragrant smell of cologne wafted up and filled my nose. I bit my lip, tasting blood. The blood drained from my face as a dark figure appeared in the doorway. It hesitated, then giggled, a low, booming snicker that made my blood run cold and my breath come out in shallow gulps. It continued towards me and reached out. I screamed a high-pitched, ear- piercing shriek. Before it could touch me, my terrified eyes rolled back into my head and I slumped onto the floor.
