2 Simple Past Tense  How do we form the simple past tense for regular verbs?  Add –ed. Ex. brew + ed = brewed Ex. brew + ed = brewed Ex. resent + ed = resented Ex. resent + ed = resented I resented that you brewed the tea too long. I resented that you brewed the tea too long.  Add –d if the verb already ends in an –e. Ex. love + d = loved Ex. love + d = loved Ex. refuse + d = refused Ex. refuse + d = refused He refused to marry her because he loved someone else. 4 Simple Past tense  For the negative past tense, use did + verb.  go Did go I didn’t go to the store yesterday. 5 Practice  Choose 9 verbs from the charts (3 from each) and write a sentence using it.  Compare your sentences with your partner.

7 Sequence these sentences.  Finally, the colonists boarded the ships and threw the tea into the harbor, ruining it.  First, they started a tea boycott.  The boycott made it hard for the British to make money on the tea.  The British governor refused.  The colonists were upset about the tea that the British put on tea.  Then, when some British ships filled with tea came into the harbor, the colonists demanded that they leave.  This was the Boston Tea Party.
