All food allergies, religious food and special dietary requirements are carefully noted and adhered to. Fresh drinking water is available to all children during a session and where an alternative drink is provided care is taken to ensure that this is suited to the healthy ethos of the club. Preparation of food is carried out with strict attention to high standards of food hygiene. The club adheres to this policy by: Ensuring that any staff involved in food preparation have attended a food hygiene course. The food preparation area is clean and suited to the preparation of food Antibacterial Gel or Protective gloves are always available and used for food preparation Clean cloths for preparing the food area and cleaning up afterwards are always available Ensuring that information regarding any special dietary requirements has been received for all children attending the club and suitably recorded for daily use. Ensuring records regarding specific dietary requirements are always kept up to date. The Manager ensures that the children can access their water bottles at all times and have the facility to re-fill if necessary. The club’s manager and committee decide on what food and drink can be offered at the club; this decision is made on the basis of what is considered to be healthy and nutritious. Care is taken to ensure that any new guidelines by Ofsted or Early Years are noted plus any other government research on healthy lifestyles/food for children. The provision of a snack is viewed as an important element in the daily structure of the club and the children are encouraged to display appropriate social behaviour. The children are made aware of the healthy content of the snack and encouraged in discussions about healthy lifestyles and healthy eating.

5 Hokey Cokey Club Holmesdale School, Alma Road, Reigate, RH2 0BY Tel: 0778 842 2922 OFSTED registration no: 122640 PROCEDURES Procedure for FOOD and DRINK – Reflecting National Standard No. 8 – Social Integration StepProcedureComment 1The Manager should ensure that all the children are instructed to thoroughly wash their hands, with soap and water, and dry them before snack time. Extra encouragement could be given by offering an achievement award based around this element of the session. Currently, all the children are lined up in two lines, girls & boys. They then go to the toilets, escorted by 2-3 Playworkers, where they can wash their hands. Currently as extra encouragement, one of the achievement awards is given to the child who has displayed excellent behavior at snack time, incl. washing their hands, being polite etc. 2To encourage considerate social skills around food and drink it is important that the Manager and staff encourage good behavior whilst the children eat their snack. This can be achieved by encouraging the children to:- Say please & thank you Remain seated until everyone has finished their snack. To put their hand up to gain the attention of staff rather than shouting out. To eat their food nicely and not play with it. To say ‘pardon me’ if they burp etc. 3The Manager should work closely with the Deputy Manager to find and plan new ways of including healthy eating and cultural diversity as part of the clubs ethos. See Appendix C. Currently ‘International Food Days’ are being planned by the Manager and Deputy Manager.
