5 What are the two ways you can become a US Citizen? By Birth (1) Jus Soli – the “law of soil”, or where one is born. Any person born on US soil or vessels is automatically a US Citizen (2) Jus Sangunis – the “law of blood”, or to whom one is born. Any child born to at least one parent who is a citizen and has lived in the US is automatically a citizen
