3 How do germs cause disease?  Disease- is an illness that keeps your body working as it should.  Germs can cause disease.  Bacteria and viruses are germs.

4 How are germs spread?  Germs are spread by breathing droplets from other people. –Keep away from sick people –Cover your nose and mouth when you cough and sneeze. Wash your hands afterwards. –Germs are spread by touching objects people have touched. –Germs can be spread through animals, food, and water.

6 What are my body’s defenses?  Body Defenses are ways your body protects you from germs. –Your skin –White Blood cells –Antibodies – is a substance in your body that kills germs.

7 It’s Catching!!!!!!  Communicable disease- is a disease that can be spread to people from people, animals, and the environment.  What do you do for a cold or flu? –Notice the symptoms (a change from the normal) ex. Coughing, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, and headache.

8 It’s Catching!!!! Continued  There is no cure for colds and flu. –Get plenty of rest –Drink lots of fluids –Use an over-the-counter drug to lessen sypmtoms 

10 What is head Lice?  Head lice are tiny insects that lay eggs in the hair.  They suck blood from your scalp.  How do they spread? –Sharing hats, combs, and hairbrushes. –They spread very easily. –Treatment: special shampoo…make sure to wash combs, hairbrushes, and hats in warm soapy water.
