How is coffee used in the United States? Why do we “NEED” it? Coffee is used in the U.S as; compost, keeping us awake, and also the acid that the plant makes is used to help cure insomnia. Coffee has became an every day need in the average American’ s life. It gets to the point where, when one is out of coffee they go through with drawls, and constantly feel tired until they get their coffee.

Coffee comes from the coffee bean. The color of the coffee bean is actually green, pink, or white when first picked. It’s a botanical plant The plant grows from anywhere from 16-30 feet tall, its often referred to as a tree. We mostly get our coffee from the countries that are south from us, to be more specific, we get most of our coffee from the tropical countries, such as Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Brazil.

Lifts moods Reduces headaches Reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease Reduces Colon Cancer by 25% Oral Hygiene Reduces Asthma attacks Its also a free drink for people who have diabetes. That means they can drink as much black coffee as they can, without it effecting the insulin in the blood stream. Can cause anxiety Restlessness Insomnia Headaches Muscle Tremors Gastrointestinal problems Diarrhea Nausea Abnormal heartbeat The caffeine can cause your growth plates to seal early if to much is consumed at an early age.

What are the environmental, cultural, and human rights concerns, if any, concerning this resource. Coffee is sometimes “sun farmed” meaning that large sections of forest are destroyed to make room for coffee trees, which then have chemicals and pesticides sprayed on the coffee. These pesticides kill important insects and leave little room for migratory birds to perch. As for cultural concerns, Coffee makes up a large portion of Guatemala’s industry, for work the Guatemalan people rely heavily on coffee for work.

What is the Industry doing to address these concerns? Some industries grow coffee in the shade of other trees, providing increased habitat for birds and insects, the birds and insects limit use of pesticides by keeping unwanted bugs away. The united states is the number one importer of coffee.
