1 Rosshall Learning Community Feedback from P7s on their Hopes and Fears on the transition from primary to secondary

2 The Task P7s from the associated primaries; Cardonald, Craigton, Crookston Castle, Hillington and Sandwood Primaries took part in a lesson on the transition from primary to secondary All information collated from the individual schools informed the P7 visits from high school staff to the primaries so some fears have already been addressed All of the primary information has now been collated for a learning community perspective The following presentation gives a snapshot of our “soon to be” new S1’s hopes and fears of secondary school

3 Hopes for Subjects and Study Do well in lessons, tests and exams New and harder work Work won’t be too hard New different and interesting subjects and sports, (football team and more specialist art, etc) Learn to play a musical instrument Learn a different language Technology/woodwork Home economics

4 Hopes for Self Development Opportunities It will be enjoyable I will become more confident I will have more responsibility I will become successful

5 Extra Curricular Activities/Social activities Making the football or athletics team After school clubs Getting a part in a play Going out for lunch to shops Trips abroad; clubs- debating and rugby studying hard

6 Looking forward to New Facilities Having lockers/ vending machines/ water fountain/ swimming pool (?)bigger gym Better food Starting a new school

7 Peers Getting bullied Losing existing friends Friends being in different classes Not making new friends Not fitting in Being alone Having no family there Fitting in with the wrong crowd Meeting the “wrong” people Being teased Nobody liking me Meeting nasty people Meeting new people Peer pressure Teachers Strict and unhelpful teachers Not doing well in lessons and being put down in class Not liking teachers Scary teachers And now for the Fears of going to secondary…. Relationships with Peers/Teachers

8 Fears in connection with Subjects and Study Getting too much homework and it being too difficult Work too difficult More work Won’t be good at new subjects Bad marks/failing exams Not getting a good job Won’t know anything Not doing well in lessons Having new subjects Doing Science experiments

9 Fears regarding Extra Curricular Activities/Social activities No more trips Fears with New Facilities Getting lost on route to classes and being late Travelling to school Not enjoying the food Going to shops for lunch Not enjoying it Coping with the one-way system

10 Other Fears Getting jags Having my face put down the toilet Getting put in a bin Being picked on for religious reasons Being offered drugs, cigarettes or alcohol People who smoke Being the youngest Won’t enjoy school Getting into trouble for being late Everything!
