 Race is not biologically real - it is socially and politically constructed via law, public policy and social practices. Society socially constructs which racial differences are deemed important Race: The Power of an Illusion

Racial Group: group set apart because of obvious physical differences Ethnic Group: group set apart primarily because of national origin or distinctive cultural patterns Minority Group: subordinate group whose members have significantly less control of power over their own lives
