2 1. What was the status of Native American tribes in Texas by 1850? Most had been removed from the settled eastern part of Texas, but they fought to keep settlers from moving westward.

3 2. Where were most tribes living? Why? West Texas Federal soldiers and settlers kept moving onto lands occupied by the Native Americans, pushing them westward.

4 3. Why did the frontier line move during the Civil War? Federal soldiers and men were fighting in the War; there was little organized defense against the Native American attacks

5 4. Why was the army ineffecitve against the tribes at this time? 1. too few, untrained 2. lack of experience fighting Indians 3. shortages of supplies 4. weapons- 60 seconds to load (Indians could ride 200 yds and shoot 20 arrows)
