3 IN SPANISH THERE ARE ALSO SUBJECT PRONOUNS; OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE DIFFERENT WORDS THAN IN ENGLISH Remember how we need to consider who we are talking to? We have to remember if we are talking TO people we know well and on a first name basis and TO people we do not know well, like adults. HERE ARE THE SPANISH SUBJECT PRONOUNS: Yo (I)*Nosotros (We) Tú (You-talking TO someone you know well)*Nosotras (We) Él (He)*Ellos (They) Ella (She)*Ellas (They) Usted (You- talking TO someone you don’t know well)*Ustedes (You)

4 WHY THE *STARS ON SOME OF THE SUBJECT PRONOUNS???? Nosotros (We- includes yourself and a group of people) Nosotras (We- girls this only involve you and other girls) Ellos (They- This is used when talking ABOUT a group of boys or boys and girls) Ellas (They- This is used when talking ABOUT girls only) Ustedes (You- this is used when talking TO more than one person)

5 THE VERB “SER” (TO BE) In English, when we describe someone, we use the verb TO BE. We say: I amWe are You areYou are He isThey are She is

6 SER- USED IN SENTENCES TO DESCRIBE OURSELVES AND OTHERS In Spanish we need to use the verb “ser” which does the same thing as “to be” The words are different.. Yo soy ( I am) Tú eres (You are)  –talking to someone you know well) Él es (He is) Ella es (She is) Usted es (You are –talking to someone you DON’T know well

Nosotros somos (We are) - includes you and other people Nosotras somos (We are) - includes you and GIRLS ONLY no boys in this group Ellos son (They are) -talking ABOUT a group of boys or a mixed group Ellas son (They are) - talking ABOUT a group of girls Ustedes son (You are) -talking TO a group of people
