North Forney High School Band Football Game Expectations Game Day 101

Pep Rally Etiquette Be quiet and respectful while all school organizations are performing. We represent ourselves with gracious class and pride at all times. Be quick to have music up and ready to play – 5 seconds after the music is called up is as much time as you should need. We perform at attention – so when you are playing you are tall, 10% above parallel, and weight forward. Everything we play we play well – no matter what music is in front of you all sounds are beautiful, all articulations are correct, and all notes and rhythms are accurate. Do not empty spit on the gym floor – that is not our facility and it is not appropriate for that facility. It is also harmful to the wood floor and potentially dangerous for the student athletes that compete later that night. Mr. Wood dismisses you from the pep rally – from there you head to Equipment Inspection

Equipment Inspection Instrument must be polished – no trace of smudges, finger prints, etc…. Brass instruments must have all valves and slides in excellent working condition. Woodwinds must have a minimum of 3 good reeds in their case – flutes must have their tuning rod. All woodwind keys must be in great working order and all pads must be in workable shape. All mouthpieces must be cleaned out – brass and woodwind – mouthpieces must be completely clear of water, food, grime, etc…. Flip folder music must be in the following order: 1. Crazy Train 2. Poker Face 3. You Shook me All Night Long 4. 7 Nation Army 5. Better Now 6. Magic Carpet Ride 7. Frankenstein 8. Drill Team Chart – this week it is Jai Ho You shouldn’t need the School Song and Fight Song as they should be by memory at this point. Any student in violation of instrument inspection will lose their 3 rd quarter break.

Loading and Dinner Once equipment is inspected – it will be taken to the loading crew on the bus. Mr. Wood will dismiss the winds to dinner, Mr. Gist will dismiss the percussion, and Mr. Gonzales will dismiss the Color Guard. The students MUST have their NFHS Band issued half-gallon water cooler – that is their ticket to get dinner. If a student forgets their cooler they will be calling you – The staff will not allow the students to get on a bus until the water cooler is in hand. The students will fill up with ice and water in the concession stand down by the stadium at NFHS. Once ice and water have been distributed, dinner will be distributed. Dinner ends when the drum major blows the whistle – all trash MUST be picked up and placed into a trash bin and all members head back to the band hall to change into their uniform. Uniform Inspection time will be posted each week by Mr. Wood

Uniform Inspection and Bus Etiquette All pieces of the uniform must be worn as designated by the band staff and/or student leadership. All pieces of the designated uniform must be on at the time of inspection. Shoes must be polished and clean, gloves must be dry and not wrinkled, black under armor must be worn, hat must be clean, and hat box must be clean. Any student that fails Uniform Inspection loses their 3 rd quarter break. Buses will be loaded by seniority – if behavior loses bus privilege, then buses will be dismissed by order. All parts of the body remain inside of the bus at all times You must remain seated on the bus at all times. Conversation on the bus must be audible by only those immediately around you. Bus transportation is a privilege not a right. Conversation must also be appropriate – no off-color jokes, profanity, or discussions of family planning. When exiting the bus ALL windows must be raised and all trash must be thrown away in a trash bin – we are guests on the bus and must treat that facility with respect. Be courteous and thankful to the bus drivers at ALL times. Depart the bus and head directly to the truck to unload – do note dilly dally.

Pre-Game and 1 st Half Expectations Follow instructions! Be where you need to be at the time you need to be there. During section warm ups – ensure that you are in tune and playing with a beautiful tone. During full group warm ups – ensure that you are giving 110% on every rep. Once we enter the stadium we are performing – so no talking – only focused behavior. Pre Game Performance! Once we conclude pregame the staff will get the band set up in the stands. The band will line up in reverse score(ish) order – Tubas (you finally get to be first!), Euphoniums, Mellophones, Trumpets, Trombones, Drum Line, Saxophones, Clarinets, Flutes, Color Guard. With 8:00 minutes left in the 2 nd quarter the band heads down to the track for Contest Show Warm Up – Spirit Show members will be assigned to assist with props, podiums, and ladders. Spirit Show members will perform with the band for the drill team.

2 nd Half Expectations Enter the stands after half time! 3 rd quarter break will begin once the full band is in the stands – you will not be dismissed if you failed equipment or uniform inspection. 3 rd quarter break ends when there is 5 minutes left in the 3 rd Quarter – any student late back from break will lose break privileges for the season. NO FOOD or DRINK unless issued by the directors during 3 rd quarter break. While it is a break, it is not a concession break. After the break the band will be in the stands playing music, dancing to cadences, playing bleacher games, and cheering the team on! After the game the band will play the School Song and Fight Song for the Team and Mr. Wood will dismiss the band a group at a time to load following the School Song and Fight Song.

Post Game Expectations Instrument and equipment is cased and loaded on the truck. Load the buses and depart for NFHS Once we arrive at NFHS – clean buses, unload truck, clean locker, and take ALL of your belongings home. Students need to be gone from NFHS 30 minutes after the truck pulls in. Students – you MUST contact your parent as the buses are pulling onto Falcon Way so they can be here in a timely manner to pick you up. Parents – all students need to be picked up in the east parking lot by the band tower – no students are to be picked up at the back doors by the band hall. We will not allow students to exit the facility from those doors – it’s poorly lit and there is too much equipment coming in and out of those doors.
