2 Leadership Models Leadership models help us understand why leaders make certain decisions. Most leaders use several leadership models Different situations call for different behaviour Blake and Mouton Leadership Model includes 4 types of behaviour: Authoritarian, Team Leader, Country Club Leader and Impoverished Leader Leadership models help us understand why leaders make certain decisions. 9 Leadership Style #1 Authoritarian (Autocratic) No input from the team at all This style is used when: The leader has all the information to solve the problem The team is short on time The followers are well motivated No input from the team at all This style is used when: The leader has all the information to solve the problem The team is short on time The followers are well motivated

11 Leadership Style #3 Delegative (Free-Reign) Used when the leader allows the followers to make the decision The leader is still responsible for the decisions made The is a great strategy when the followers are able to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done and how to do it Leaders cannot do everything nor are they good at everything… As a leader you must not be afraid to admit this and must be prepared to delegate tasks to people who are better at them than you! Used when the leader allows the followers to make the decision The leader is still responsible for the decisions made The is a great strategy when the followers are able to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done and how to do it Leaders cannot do everything nor are they good at everything… As a leader you must not be afraid to admit this and must be prepared to delegate tasks to people who are better at them than you!

13 Using all 3 Leadership Styles It can be done! Example: Telling your employees that a procedure is not working correctly and a new one must be established (authoritarian). Asking for their ideas and input on creating a new procedure (participative). Delegating tasks in order to implement the new procedure (delegative). It can be done!
