2 White Paper – July 2012 “ In the future, we expect that people will say: “I know that the person giving me care and support will treat me with dignity and respect” People’s experience of care and support depends heavily on the sensitivity and compassion of the care workers who work with them. By setting out clear minimum training standards, recruiting more apprentices and supporting the transformation of the social work profession, we will ensure that people are confident that they will be able to develop trusting and rewarding relationships with those giving them care and support.” Pg19

3 White Paper – July 2012 “ Better skills and training are an important part of raising standards overall...The Sector Skills Councils for Social Care and Health will work with the Government to produce a code of conduct. The code of conduct will draw on the Dignity Code produced by the National Pensioners Convention and the Dignity in Care campaign’s Dignity Challenge” pg 50

4 Code of Conduct Available on SfC website Applies to adult social care workers 7 statements Each statement has guidance statements Glossary Help employers to know what they should expect. GSCC code of conduct still promoted by SfC

6 National Minimum Training Standards 10 standards Define minimum worker should know Whilst meeting minimum standards does not imply competence in a role Often gain knowledge during induction or first few months.

7 The Standards 1.The roles of the Healthcare Support Worker and Adult Social Care Worker 2.Your personal development 3.Effective communication 4.Equality, diversity and inclusion 5.Duty of care 6.Safeguarding 7.Person-centred care and support 8.Health and safety 9.Handling information 10.Infection prevention and control

8 Pathways? Common induction standards (9 standards but does not include Infection prevention and control) Link with CIS uncertain until the Cavendish report is published. Not imply competence therefore progress to Diploma in health and social care
