Rising 9 th Grade Informational Meeting Accepting Carnegie Units in Middle School

Accepting Carnegie Units at McConnell 8 th grade students at McConnell can earn high school credit for the following courses: – Accelerated Algebra 1 CC – Algebra 1 CC – Biology – Physical Science – Food, Nutrition, & Wellness – Intro to Business and Technology

Accepting Carnegie Units at McConnell If you accept the credit, you cannot take the course again – Example: If you accept credit for Food, Nutrition, & Wellness in 8 th grade, you cannot take the course again in high school

Accepting Carnegie Units at McConnell If you have been successful in the prerequisite course, you do not need to accept the credit to move on to the next course in the sequence – Examples: If you do not accept credit for Accelerated Algebra, you can still move on to Accelerated Geometry If you do not accept credit for Algebra, you can still move on to Geometry

Accepting Carnegie Units at McConnell Physical Science does count as a 4 th science course for graduation purposes; however, that is not the intent of the course. The course is to provide students with the appropriate foundational knowledge of Chemistry and Physics.

Accepting Carnegie Units at McConnell All credits accepted will be factored into high school GPA, including class rank, valedictorian, honor graduate, etc. MS credits will not be factored into HOPE GPA Both semester grades will be applied to the high school transcript (not the combined grade) If you accept a “B” for one semester of credit in middle school, you will never have a 4.0 GPA

Accepting Carnegie Units at McConnell Other considerations: – Have you thought about post-secondary plans? – Do you plan to strive for a 4.0 in high school? – Do you want to make room in your high school schedule for more elective courses?
