3 TRANSITION ACTIVITIES  Q & A with high school counselor immediately following presentation  January 12 th -Assembly with 8 th graders to receive Course Description Guides and Course Selection Sheet  Follow up parent meetings at the middle school assigned by alphabet (Jan 30 th -Feb. 1 st ), hosted by Mrs. Ingoglia and accompanied by high school counselor (make up night meeting Feb. 8 th with 8 th grade counselor and Director)

4 TRANSTIONING ACTIVITIES cont.  8 th grade “Bridge Days” to high school week of March 28 & 29 for tours and presentations.  Freshman Orientation- Tentative Date: Aug. 28  First Month of High School:  Assembly with Administration and break out sessions with counselor in smaller group  9 th Grade BBQ  Freshman Parent Night  Introductory Individual Meetings with counselor

5 HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING CENTER  The Role of the Counselor  Individual Conferences with students & parents  Parent Nights at each grade level  Guidance Programming in classrooms each year  Annual scheduling meetings with students  Naviance- career planning and college search tool  Post Secondary Planning

6 DIPLOMA OPTIONS  Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation *  Regents Diploma*  IEP Diploma/Local Diploma * Students also have an opportunity to earn Honors Distinction (90% or above Regents examination test average)

11 ACADEMIC PLACEMENT TIMELINE  Course Selection (Due: Feb. 10 th )  Course Verifications mailed home throughout Spring  Final scheduling in June based on finals, mailed home end of June  Honors Appeal, if appropriate (Due July 6 th )  Parent Portal Open to view schedule (tentative August 20 th )  Correction of Error Form-based on strict criteria for any changes (due Aug. 24 th )

12 HONORS POLICY And Student Placement  Students must have a minimum class average of 92 and a Regents examination (if applicable) or departmental assessment of 90 or better  Students will be placed in classes based upon progress through third quarter  Final placement will be made in June  Honors Appeal, if applicable
