1 THE BIBLE YEAR FOUR TERM THREE – 3 WEEK UNIT

2 LEARNING INTENTION LI: You will learn about the parts of the Bible.

3 As we explain each of these try to find them in a Bible (you may have to work in pairs) The Bible is divided into the Old Testament (containing 46 books) New Testament (containing 27 books). The word testament means covenant or agreement.

4 NEW AND OLD TESTAMENT The Old Testament was put together by the Hebrews The New Testament was collected and preserved by early Christians after the time of Jesus Christ.

5 OLD TESTAMENT Most of the Old Testament forms the sacred text for the followers of Judaism and is the scripture that Jesus knew (because Jesus was a Jew).

6 Using a Bible put the parts of the Bible in order of where you find them in the Bible. Cut them out from your worksheet and glue them into your book in order.

7 COMPLETE THE BIBLE SKILLS ACTIVITY

8 LEARNING INENTION LI: I will identify a variety of different creation stories.

9 CHRISTIAN CREATION STORY BRAINSTORM WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN CREATION STORY? Where do we find the story of Creation? What are the different parts of the story? How many Creation stories are there in the Old Testament?

16 TEXT TYPES So what are text types? They can be Information reports Narratives Procedure Poetry Persuasive These are used in the Bible. Historical - myth Poetry Song Letter List Speech/sermon Wise saying Prayer

17 LANGUAGE FEATURES IN THE BIBLE They may use Imagery (words that help you to image what something is like) Metaphor (something is something else) Simile (something is like something else) Repetition (repeating words) Symbol (something that represents something else) Alliteration (words that start with the same sound)

18 Jonah - Working in pairs Half of the class is going to read Jonah 1. Go to Bible Gateway and Type in Jonah 1 NSRV Then discuss with your partner what the story means Half of the class is going to read Jonah 2. Go to Bible Gateway and Type in Jonah 2 NSRV Then discuss with your partner what the story means Discuss as a class what each of the stories were about Then work out -What was the same -What was different

19 Jonah- Click on the clip to watch In your religion books draw a picture of the main scene in the story of Jonah. Then write a artist statement about what the story of Jonah tells us about God. Think about what the moral of the story is.
