1 Students will build prior knowledge for the upcoming novel, Frankenstein by reading historical background information about the Enlightenment period. Students will understand the role of women in 18 th century British society by reading “ A Vindication of the Rights of Woman” Students will understand and appreciate an essay exploring the arguments of women’s rights. Students will determine the meaning of unknown words by using context clues. Students will use various reading strategies to help monitor their reading comprehension. Students will write for a variety of purposes and audiences using the Standard English conventions of grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Students will understand the use of verbals as it relates to English grammar.
