1 Student Objectives Students will determine the meaning of unknown words using context clues. Students will build prior knowledge to assist with comprehension of text. Students will understand the following literary terms: epic, stock epithet, kenning, and alliteration. Students will utilize various reading strategies during reading to monitor their comprehension of the text. Students will write for a variety of purposes and audiences using the Standard English conventions of grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

6 Alliteration Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words in a line. Examples: –Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. –Trisha Tutone twisted Tyrone’s tie.
