2. Location When it was constructed, it was located in the Campus Martius, on the outskirts of Rome. The area around the Pantheon at the time was very rural. However the area became the gathering place for elections and the army.

3. Origin The first Pantheon was created during Marcus Agrippa’s third consulship in 27 BCE. It was for dedication for the victory of the Battle of Actium. This Pantheon ended being destroyed by a by a fire in 80 CE. Domitian, a Roman emperor rebuilt it. However, in 110 CE, the Pantheon again burned. Reconstruction occurred again by the emperor Hadrian. It is this iteration that still stands today, though it has been touched up a bit.

4. Importance/Use The importance of the Pantheon was that it was such a huge archeological feet especially of the time. It was the largest concrete structure for almost 2000 years. It is also one of the best preserved Roman buildings. Originally, the Pantheon was used as a temple. The name Pantheon mean “to every god.” It was a temple for all of the god of Rome. In the middle ages, it was changed into a Christian church to save it from destruction. All of the pagan aspects of the Pantheon were destroyed and replaced with Christian artifacts as well. During the Renaissance it was also used as a tomb for famous artists.
