TEAMWORK By: Haruna & Josh

Is a joint action by a group of people, in which each person subordinates his or her individual interests and opinions to the unity and efficiency of the group.

Characteristics of Effective Teamwork  The team must take responsibility and accept credit for its actions as a group and not individually.  Teams must be committed to a common purpose and goal.  Teams must be provided clear expectations and adequate resources to accomplish its goals.  The team must be able to communicate effectively with each other.  Team members must encourage new ideas from others.  Members of the team must be trustworthy.  Members of the team must learn to appreciate the diversity of knowledge that the other team members have to offer.

 The team takes too long to finalize a decision, resulting in poor decisions making.  The team is over managed and not allowed to work as a team.  Alliances that have different goals are allowed to form within the team.  The team is unable to visualize or accept change.

Group exercise vs Team exercise Members work independently and they often are not working towards the same goal. Members focus mostly on themselves because they are not involved in the planning of their group's objectives and goals. Members are very cautious about what they say and are afraid to ask questions.  Members base their success on trust and encourage all members to express their opinions, varying views, and questions.  Members make a conscious effort to be honest, respectful, and listen to every person's point of view.  Members work interdependently and work towards both personal and team goals, and they understand these goals are accomplished best by mutual support.
