The Textbook: The Company’s Manual 1.Get to know your textbook up close and personally before you begin to read your assignments. Is there an index or a glossary? How is it laid out? What other helping tools are provided by the author? 2.Look at and try to understand all the pictures, graphs, charts illustrations, etc. The author uses these for a reason. 3.read and understand the chapter titles and paragraph headings. This will help prepare you for what you’re supposed to be reading and learning. 4.If there are questions to be answered at the end of the assignment, read them before reading the chapter. Doing so will help you know what you’re supposed to be learning. 5.Find and define any vocabulary words before you begin to read. You will understand the material better.

What Your Body Needs for the Journey 1. In order to perform at your peak and even just to survive the journey, you must have a strong and healthy body. Limit junk food and maximize the opportunities to eat a balanced diet from all the food groups. Eat a piece of fruit and a glass of water instead of a death wad ( doughnut) and caffeinated sugar water (Coke).

2.Get enough sleep. This will keep you from catching most “bugs.” Go out for the swim team – or any Tiger athletic team! Your body is designed to have regular exercise. This will not only help your physical fitness, but it will also help your mind. You can learn more stuff more easily if you have a regular exercise program as part of your weekly activities. (For those in regular P.E., think of the mile run as exercise or therapy for your brain!)

Attendance: What does this mean in school? What will this mean at work? Come to class everyday. Be in class on time. Come with not only your body, but your mind and all necessary materials (paper, pencils, pen, homework, books). Do your best at all times. Stay on task. Show respect for all (school, classroom, equipment, teachers, other students, parents, your dog, etc.).

Businesses require a good attitude -- and so does your school! A good attitude comes with having a POSITIVE_ attitude. Listen : To the teacher. To the explanation of the assignments. To your fellow students.

Participation: The key to Your Success Answer questions—answer all the questions asked by the teacher—even if you don’t answer them out loud Ask questions if you’re unclear or lost. Do your work by yourself. Get involved in class discussions. Be part of the group activities. Do your best everyday. Write down all assignments. Give homework an honest effort. Try to skim the chapter before the teacher begins the chapter.
