Where we are going - content Duplicates of research articles... Conference materials eTheses Book chapters Monographs Research data Grey research literature Non-research materials
Where we are going - facilities Exposure for harvesting... Linkage to departmental pages Linkage to personal pages - career logs RAE/REF - citation and usage analyses Beyond pdf - text and data-mining Virtual Research Environments Web 2.0 - mash-ups and tagging
Where we are going - re-scoping Teaching and learning Professional support environments Course administration Communication environments Preservation and true archives Institutional choice - for most research- led institutions, a focus on research...
Expanded research intentions Supporting research through repositories –researchers needs –institutional goals –researchers and institutional working practices –research communication –research itself –research process –research assessment
Where we are going - embedding Institutional integration Workflows Repository as a set of services Staffing and management Funder mandate compliance Information management & REF Exploitation and outreach Virtual research environments
What now? What is the bigger picture? What parts should we play? What paths should we take? When will things develop?

Abstract of session In the UK we have passed beyond the first stage of repository adoption, with a significant number of institutional repositories now gathering content. While much remains to be done in getting complete coverage within all HEIs, the first wave of establishment is becoming embedded within institutional processes. How are these repositories developing beyond their original conception, with different content and usage? How are institutions responding to the opportunities and challenges that are arising, from funder mandates, publishers' options and the needs of information management? This session will offer an interactive opportunity to examine these issues, opportunities and emergent best practice.
