2 Project Overview The 2 nd graders are helping the United Way campaign by raising awareness in our school community and in Columbus. This week, students will continue to be community leaders. Students will be learning about being leaders by encouraging others to participate in the campaign. Second graders will be collecting money during lunch this week for the kiss a pig contest. Our goal is $1000!

3 Noise Level 1 1.Monday 1.Discuss the Talk About It on page 333. 2.Read Safety at School on pages 334 and 335 to learn your vocabulary words. 3.Identify Synonyms 2.Tuesday 1.Begin Reading Officer Buckle and Gloria on page 337. 3.Wednesday 1.Continue reading Officer Buckle and Gloria. 4.Thursday 1.Finish reading Officer Buckle and Gloria. 2.Read Fire Safety on pages 362-365 3.Begin comprehension packet. Make sure to get the packet with your name on it! 5.Friday 1.Complete the comprehension packet and turn in to the reading file. 2.When comprehension packet is complete, read one of the informational books about safety and hospital helpers. 4 Writing Leaders in our community Noise Level 1 1.Monday: Choose a leader in our community that you know to write about. It could be a doctor, bank president, mayor, police officer, teacher. Think about what they do and how they are leaders. Use one of the graphic organizers to write down your ideas. 2.Tuesday: Start writing your rough draft about your community leader. Make sure to have a title, topic sentence and supporting details. 3.Wednesday: Continue your writing. Trade with a partner and check for spelling and punctuation. 4.Thursday: Get your chrome book and begin typing your writing about your community leader. 5.Friday: Finish your writing and turn into the writing file Standards and skills: Write an opinion using facts and details to support the opinion. 5 Self-Selected Reading / Accelerated Reader Noise Level 0 1.Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. 2.Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. 3.Silently read. 4.After you finish your book, take AR quiz and then fill out the form with the book title, and your AR quiz score. 5.When you finish the sheet, turn it in to the AR basket. Materials Needed SSR/ AR form Book of choice Home Standards and skills: Read with accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

6 Working with Words Noise Level 1 Monday: Start the spelling packet. Tuesday: Finish the spelling packet and turn in to the turn in file. Choose one of the activities to complete: 1) Fluency reading with a partner. 2) Crayon mats 3) Flip book 4) Synonyms/Antonyms Online Practice Wednesday- Choose an activity using your words: 1. Fluency reading 2. Crayon Mats 3. Flip Book 4. Synonyms/Antonyms Online Practice. You must complete two of these activities this week. Thursday: Spelling City- go to the website to practice your words for the test on Friday. You may only go to the challenge list if you have mastered the regular list. Standards Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds. Recognize and read long and short vowels in words.
