2 Lemonade Day Second graders will set up a lemonade stand in our community on May 18 th ! Students are learning how to set up a booth, get donations, fund supplies, save money and also share their earning to help animals in our community. We are so excited to see what their business plan will entail. Students will be able to sign up to work specific times on Saturday, May 18 th.

3 Noise Level 1 Monday Open your Treasures Book to pages 124 and 125 to discuss Habitats and Homes and complete the Talk About It question. Then, read “My Home in Alaska” to learn your new vocabulary words and discuss making inferences. Tuesday and Wednesday Read Nutik, the Wolf Pup, by Jean Craighead George. Wednesday and Thursday Complete the reading comprehension packet on Nutik, the Wolf Pup. Animal Habitats and Homes What will happen if… I don’t get it. I didn’t finish. Reread the story During SSR station With an adult You have more time during workshop. Great! Move on to Challenge Read. I think I’m a master. 4 Lemonade Day Flyers This week and next, you will have the opportunity to create a flyer to hand out at our lemonade stand on May 18 th. Our class will choose 2-5 different flyers to print for the day and pass out to visitors at Lemonade Day. Your job is to create an informative flyer that will give our customers information about animals. You can choose your topic, but it must be focused on ways to learn more about animals or how to help them. Your flyer must have a title, complete sentences, and correct grammar. You may choose to add pictures, color, and the font of your choice. Remember, only 2-5 from our class will be chosen to copy for the day, so do your best work! Skills and Standards 2.4.8 Revise original drafts to improve sequence (the order of events) or to provide more descriptive detail. 2.5.5 Use descriptive words when writing. 2.3.1- Life Cycles in Plants and Animals 2.W.2- Write informative pieces Materials Needed Writing Rubric Computers Home Project Connection: Animals in the community and Lemonade Day

5 Noise Level 0 1. Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. 2. Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. 3. Silently read. 4. After you finish your book, write the name of the book in your Data Binder. 5. Be sure to fill in the information about your book in your binder. 6. If you can answer all the questions in your Data Binder, get your laptop and log on to AR to take your test. 7. Record your AR score in your Data Binder..
