1  What is CHAMPS?  CHAMPS is a research-based, school-wide system at Lincoln Middle School that emphasizes positive behavior interactions and supports for all students. The goal is to ensure that challenging or inappropriate behavior is replaced by positive social skills. Since the program is enacted school-wide, the student expectations are the same throughout the entire school and students understand what they need to do.  C onversation-What is the appropriate conversation level during a classroom activity or in a common area? (No talking, quiet conversation, etc.)  H elp-What is the appropriate way the student can ask for help during an activity or in a common area? (Raise hand, seek closest adult, etc.)  A ctivity-What will be needed, what type of action is taking place and how long will it take? (Students will need a pencil, eyes on speaker, etc.)  M ovement-What type of movement is occurring and when? (Student can get tissue without raising hand, walking in hallway, etc.)  P articipation-How will students show they are taking part in the activity and who should be participating? (Students should be writing, students must have a pass during class time, etc.)  S uccess!!

2  C onversation-Use good manners(please and thank you). Use indoor voices. Keep conversations at your table.  H elp-Raise your hand to leave your seat. Seek the closest adult in emergency situations.  A ctivity-Go directly to assigned table and stay seated until called by lunch staff. Be considerate of other’s space.  M ovement-Keep hands, feet and food to self. Ask for permission to leave the lunch table unless you are throwing out your trash. Walk.  P articipation-Be on time. Clean up after self. Use appropriate entrance and exits.  S uccess!

3  C onversation-Use appropriate language. Use indoor voices in the building.  H elp-Report any inappropriate/dangerous behavior to any adult.  A ctivity-Go directly to breakfast(cafeteria) or remain near main doors until entrance bell. Keep moving in halls. Go directly to locker to prepare and be ready to enter classroom.  M ovement-Stay to the right and walk in hallway. Use the appropriate stairwells for Up and Down travel.  P articipation-Follow directions of the staff. Keep hands and feet to yourself. Walk at all times. Arrive on time.  S uccess! 

4  C onversation-Use appropriate language. Use indoor voices in the building.  H elp-Report any inappropriate/dangerous behavior to any adult.  A ctivity-Take all needed materials (homework, books, notes, other belongings). Keep moving in halls. Exit building calmly. Go directly to bus, car or route home.  M ovement-Stay to the right and walk in hallway. Use the appropriate stairwells for Up and Down travel.  P articipation-Follow directions of the staff. Keep hands and feet to yourself. Walk at all times.  S uccess!

5  C onversation-Use indoor voices. Use appropriate language at all times.  H elp-Seek the closest adult to report a problem.  A ctivity-Must have a hall pass during class time. Travel quietly and directly to the next class.  M ovement- Students should be walking on the right side of the hallway. Use appropriate stairwells for Up and Down travel.  P articipation-Keep hands and feet to self at all times. Close lockers gently. Watch where you are going. Pick up trash in the hallway.  S uccess!

6  C onversation-Speak quietly.  H elp-Report graffiti, damage or any kind of disturbance to a staff member immediately. Notify a staff member if supplies are needed.  A ctivity-Flush the toilets. Clean up after yourself. Respect other’s privacy. Dispose of items in proper containers.  M ovement-Use restroom during passing time if at all possible.  P articipation-Use all time wisely. Be worthy of the trust in having a pass. Wash your hands with soap, exit promptly and return to class.  S uccess!

7  C onversation-Silent. This is independent work.  H elp-Try to do all problems on your own. Try not to disturb teacher unless there is an emergency.  A ctivity-Use your Math Notebook, write today’s date on the top, use pencil, show your work.  M ovement- Borrow a pencil at the beginning of class. Remain seated during bellwork.  P articipation-Begin immediately. Students not on task when beel rings will be marked tardy.  S uccess!

8  C onversation-Be Silent.  H elp-Please stay seated and raise your hand.  A ctivity- Do your best work, show your work.  M ovement- Remain seated, turn over your test when finished and begin a silent task at your seat.  P articipation- This is independent work. Please cover your answers from wandering eyes.  S uccess!

9  C onversation-Limit to a low voice, only to your partner.  H elp-Please stay seated and raise your hand.  A ctivity- Do your best work, contribute evenly.  M ovement- Remain seated, use caution when moving desks. Keep aisle ways clear.  P articipation- This is partner work. Keep working on the task at hand. Limit sidebar conversations.  S uccess!
