Almost all foods are of plant or animal origin. Cereal grain is a staple food that provides more food energy worldwide than any other type of crop. Maize, wheat, and rice - in all of their varieties - account for 87% of all grain production worldwide

Most Slovaks eat breakfast very early and tuck into different types of Slovakian bread with butter, ham, cheese, boiled or fried eggs, salami, vegetables, sausages and either jam or honey to round the meal off. Some people prefer cereals of various choices or yoghurt. The main meal of the day is lunch, eaten at about mid- day. Many restaurants in Slovakia offer a daily menu where there is a choice between dishes served between 11 a.m. to 2,30 in the afternoon. A typical Slovakian lunch consists of soup and the main course. The main course is usually meat, pasta or a sweet dish.

Fast food is a typical feature of British and American life style. In a restaurant you can eat national dishes, but there are places, where you can either buy various types of food to eat as you walk along the streets or take it away and eat at home. The Americans call fast food restaurants "cheapies". These places - McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy’s, KFC usually offer beverages (Coca-Cola, tea, coffee, milkshakes...), some food like roast chicken and chips, hamburgers, sandwiches, pizza, salads or deserts (apple, cherry pie). The oldest types of fast food are seafood stalls or shops - usually with „fish and chips“. Another typical feature of British and American lifestyle is popcorn. You can buy it when you´re walking the streets. Various types of popcorn are salt - either sweet with sugar or other flavours.

When British and Americans people eat out (= in a restaurant), they can choose from a wide range of eating places. The busiest tend to be burger bars, pizzerias and other fast-food outlets, which are popular with young people and families. In Britain these have largely replaced traditional cafés selling meals like sausage, egg and chips, thought most towns still have several fish and chips shops. Many pubs also serve reasonably prices meals. Many people eat out at Italian, Mexican and Chinese restaurant and at curry house. Fewer people go to smarter, more expensive restaurants. With the great variety of food available at relatively low prices, eating out is common.

People also eat snacks between this three meals. They usually eat chocolate, crisps, stick, wafers and so on. They drink fruit or vegetables drink, jogurt drink, tea, ice tea, coffee, ice coffee, coca – cola, fanta, sprite, milk or hot milk and so on.

A lot of people have problem with their figure and want or must lose on their weight. They want to look better and they want to feel fit. They go to the doctor, which prescribe/order (predpíše, nariadi) some type of diet.
