2. GREAT WHITE SHARK 5 facts
The Great White Shark is the largest of the sharks.
It is a stream lined swimmer and it’s also ferocious predator with around 3,000 teeth at any one time!
This fish is feared by hundreds of thousands of people.
It also has torpedo shaped body and a pointed snout.
It also has a crescent shaped tail, 5 gill slits, no fin spines, an anal fin, and three main fins; the dorsal fin which is on it’s back and Two pectoral fins on it’s sides.

3. SCIENTIFIC NAME
The Great White Shark’s current scientific name is Carcharodon Carcharias. Carolus Linnaeus gave the Great White Shark it’s first scientific name Squalus carcharias in Sir Andrew Smith gave it the generic name Carcharodon in Also in 1873 the generic name was identified with Linnaeus specific and the current scientific name Carcharodon Carcharias was finalized. Carcharodon comes from the Greek words Karcharos, Which means sharp or jagged, and odous which means tooth.

4. Family The family of the Great White Shark is the Lamnidae family.
The Family Lamnidae (the mackerel sharks), which also includes mako and salmon sharks.
The sharks in the Lamnidae family are put there because of their characteristics.
They are warm-bodied and able to constantly maintain a body temperature about degrees F above the water temperature.

5. HABITAT/ENVIRONMENT
The great white shark is found mostly in temperate waters making very infrequent visits to the colder waters of Canada or Alaska
Great whites are found off the coasts of Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, California to Alaska, and many other countries
The great white shark and many other sharks like to stalk the reefs for lunch
Also the great white shark lives along the coast and the surf line!

6. POPULATION
The great white shark population is dwindling from overhunting!
Almost everyone is hunting these sharks out of fear and for sport but the main reason is for food.
The great white shark population is very, very fragile and could easily be tipped to extinction or Salvation.
So remember be careful about the environment around you and about how quickly a species could be endangered and more seriously extinct.

7. Species
The great white shark is between feet long. It can grow up to feet!!!
They have 3000 teeth in several rows.
The shark’s “skin” is like tiny little teeth and is rough to the touch and possibly able to cut human flesh.
The back is a dull grey color but the back is an extravagant shade of blue!
