ANCIENT SHARKS Sharks have survived on Earth for thousands of years.
DIET Sharks eat many different things. Some eat turtles, some eat other sharks and some eat smaller fish like krill. Krill look like small shrimp.
LIFE CYCLE Before a female sharks can have pups she must mate with a male shark. Sharks can lay as many as 17 eggs. Some pups grow in eggs. Some sharks are in eggs on the ocean floor. Swell sharks lay eggs in seaweed. Some sharks are hatched in their mothers body. Young sharks are called pups.
FINS Sharks are excellent swimmers. They swim side to side. Fins help them turn around.
SCALES Their scales are very tough. They are covered in something called denticles. These are like little teeth. If you touch it with your hand, you will have a big cut.
TEETH Shark teeth are very powerful and strong. Sharks have teeth that are sharp and pointy. Sharks have rows of teeth.
ROWS OF TEETH When a shark loses a tooth a new one grows back. Sharks have many different shapes of teeth. Sometimes when sharks use their teeth they fall out sometimes when they use their teeth to eat fish.
