3 I. the suffix “-able” The suffix “-able” combines with verbs to form adjectives. Adjectives formed in this way describe someone or something that can have a particular thing done to him/her/it.

17 When you want to give instructions or to explain how something happens, you explain a process. A process is a sequence of actions leading to a result. You must arrange the steps in proper order by use of transitional expressions. first the first step then second next the next step third the third step after that before after finally the last step

18 The following sentence patterns are useful in writing topic sentences for process writing: 1.It is easy/simple/not difficult to ______ if you ______. 2. ______ is easy when you follow these steps/directions/instructions. 3. There are three/four/several major steps involved in ______.

19 Example: How can you be Somebody that only asks what he or she can do for others instead of asking what others can do for him or her? That is easy when you follow these steps. First, stop depending on other people and gain more control over yourself. Second, motivate yourself by saying, “I have a self- starter in me; I’ll use it!”

20 Finally, believe that you are that Somebody and you can do certain things that not just Anybody can do. By practicing, gradually you will be able to break the dependency on Somebody Else and be in control of your life more than you used to be.

21 Format of Process Writing Topic sentence: How can you be Somebody that only asks what he or she can do for others instead of asking what others can do for him or her? That is easy when you follow these steps. Supporting details: Step 1: Stop depending on other people and gain more control over yourself.
