2 Carbohydrates Function: The function of carbohydrates is to provide energy for the body, especially the brain and the nervous system. An amylase helps break down carbohydrates into blood sugar, which is used for energy by the body. Food:  Brown Rice  Whole Grain Breads  Potatoes

3 Fibre Function: The function of fibre is to keep the digestive system healthy and functioning properly. Food:  Dark Chocolate  Dry Roasted Soybeans  Nuts

4 Protein Function: Protein is essential to the structure of red blood cells, for the proper functioning of antibodies resisting infection, for the regulation of enzymes and hormones, for growth, and for the repair of body tissue. Food:  Turkey  Fish  Tofu

5 Saturated fats Function: Saturated fat tends to increase blood cholesterol levels. Most saturated fats tend to be solid at room temperature, with the exception of tropical oils. Food:  Dried coconut  Butter  Cheese

6 Mono-unsaturated fats Function: Help your body absorb nutrients Food:  Peanut Butter  Olive oils  Avocados

7 Poly-unsaturated fat Function: Polyunsaturated Fat tends to lower blood cholesterol levels. Food:  Walnuts  Sunflower seeds  Sesame seeds

8 Vitamin A Function: Vitamin A is needed for new cell growth, healthy skin, hair, and tissues, and vision in dim light. Food:  Lettuce  Carrot  Dried Herbs

9 Vitamin B12 Function: Vitamin B12 is needed for building proteins in the body, red blood cells, and normal function of nervous tissue. Food:  Octopus  Fish  Beef

10 Vitamin B9 Function: It has numerous rolls in the body sysstem and is most commonly known because of it's extreme importance during pregnancy and the severe problems a deficiency can cause. Food:  Brown rice  Cauliflower  Cheese

11 Vitamin C Function: It’s needed for the formation of collagen to hold the cells together and for healthy teeth, gums and blood vessels. It also improves iron absorption and resistance to infection. Food:  Fresh Herbs  Strawberries  Kiwi fruit

12 Vitamin D Function: Vitamin D promotes absorption and use of calcium and phosphate for healthy bones and teeth. Food:  Milk  Liver  Salmon

13 Iron Function: Iron is needed for the formation of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen from the lungs to the body cells. Food:  Eggs  Meat  Legumes

14 Calcium Function: Calcium is needed for healthy bones and teeth, normal blood clotting, and nervous system functioning. Food:  Dairy Products  Tofu  Cabbage

15 Phosphorus Function: Phosphorus is needed for healthy bones and teeth, energy metabolism, and acidbase balance in the body. Food:  Grains  Lean meat  Food additives

16 Iodine Function: Iodine is a trace mineral and an essential nutrient found naturally in the body. Food:  Cod  sea bass  haddock
