1. What function is represented by the ribosomes? A.1 B.2 C.3 D.4 Science Starter 2.18-19.15

2. Explain the difference between photosynthesis and cellular respiration. What organelles does each process take place in and what cells go through each of those processes? Photosynthesis is the process when plants use sunlight to make food for the plant. This process takes place in the chloroplast and only happens in plant cells. Cellular respiration breaks down “food” to produce energy for the cell. This process takes place in the mitochondria and happens in both plant and animal cells.

1. Bone Rigid connective tissue made mostly of calcium Provides shape and support, protection, and allows the body to move

2. Chloroplast Green structues typically found in plant cells to make food by photosynthesis Captures energy from sunlight and changes it to energy the cell needs to make food

3. Epithelial Covers the whole surface of the body Helps protect against infection and bacteria Covers or lines all internal body organs

4. Blood Form in bone marrow 2 types – Red blood cells – transport oxygen in the blood – White blood cells – fight infection in the body

5. Mitochondria Breaks down glucose to produce energy for the cell (cell respiration)

6. Muscle Attach to bones Controls movement in the body

7. Nerve Celled neurons Carry messages from the brain to the environment and visa versa
