2 Info East Noble School Corporation Noble County, IN Unemployment rate for Noble County – 15-18% ENHS – approx 1,100 students

3 Overview Free/Reduced lunch rates at East Noble elementary schools are between 50-70% 360 K-4 Students in EN Currently Receiving Backpacks Weekly 5 East Noble Elementary Schools currently in program Garrett-Keyser-Butler, Dekalb Central, and Angola schools are also providing backpacks to elementary students in Dekalb and Steuben counties.

4 Goals Help with nutritional needs for students over the weekends Provide students with food and snacks to deal with hunger Work with high school students in project based learning to gain an understanding of helping others and philanthropy

5 Expected Results Attendance rates increase on Fridays. This is attributed to the fact that the backpacks are passed out on Fridays. Improved achievement from students on Mondays. Student partners will have a better understanding of helping others.

6 What do you need did to get it started? Core group of visionaries with a common passion. Planning and budgeting.

7 How to get it started”... Get financial partners Get service partners Food provider partnership

8 Identify elementary school or after school program that has a definite need. Have meetings with key players. Present your plan and go with it. What do we do to get it started?

9 What we did to “get it started”... Met with elementary school’s principal. Met with the elementary staff. Sent information home to elementary student’s parents. Got approval from parents of students who qualified or received free/reduced lunches.

10 Once you’re started... Create a weekly schedule Get general education students and special needs students to assist in the program Offer the program as an internship. State of Indiana has Professional Career Internships. Career Pathways

11 Mondays Pick up totes with backpacks from schools. The students return them every Monday, if not, they will not receive food the following Friday.

12 Tuesdays Take inventory of backpacks. Inventory warehouse. Make a shopping list of what items are needed for the current week.

13 Wednesdays Go shopping for weekly menu. Meet with service partners.

14 Thursdays Pack bags for delivery This is where we involve our special needs students.

15 Fridays Deliver Bags to STUDENTS!!!

17 501c3 Status Non profit status Donations from corporate partners Find a local charity or food bank who will agree to be a fiscal agent.

18 Letters to Parents English Spanish Examples are available.

19 Funding Sources Foundations Business/Corporate Partners Individual Donors Service Organizations

20 Volunteers Get the word out. Retired teachers. Find people that want to give back to the community. Don’t underestimate students.
