6 Thesis – Your most important relationship is with your supervisors. Academic guidance and advice in refining your topic, finding suitable sources, structuring your thesis, but especially planning. Planning involves: – Ensuring the smooth progress of your candidature so that you finish within the three-year time frame. This includes timely completion of your milestone events. – Ensuring that you complete the research training components of your thesis.

7 Milestones Milestone events: (see Handbooks for details) – Confirmation of candidature (PhD: 12 months, Masters: 9-12 months if full-time) – Mid-Candidature Review (MCR): PhD: 21-27 months if full-time. – Pre-submission seminar: PhD: no less than 6 months before the candidature end date.

At each milestone, you will need to show that you have done the appropriate components of your training.

11 Keeping track of your Research Training To help students maintain a record of the research training activities that they have undertaken, the LCS program has devised a template: – A self-expanding “Research Training Requirements Record of Activity” form, available at http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/grp-literary-cultural- studies/?p=243&preview=true http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/grp-literary-cultural- studies/?p=243&preview=true This is not an official form. There is no obligation to use it, but it may be helpful at the time when you need to report on the research training activities that you have completed in your milestone reports.
